seven ways to make your home more cozy this winter

There are so many ways to add coziness to your home this winter season. These ideas are not just Christmas themed but can carry you through the long winter days after the holidays adding light, texture, and warmth to your space.

1. twinkle lights

Twinkle lights are such a simple but effective way to add a cozy feel to a room. There are so many string light options. This is a battery powered option that has worked very well for my decor. Twinkle lights can be used on a mantle, on a shelf, wrapped around an object – really, there are endless ways to use these. I always have a strand on my mantle garland throughout the winter, and it has served me well!

2. pillows

Who doesn’t love pillows?! Well, I can tell you, they are not my husband’s favorite, but other than that, WHO?! Pillows add such a comfy touch to a space. In this picture I placed these pillows on my shelf, which seems a little weird at first, but it totally works! It adds such a fun amount of softness and texture to my built-ins. Of course, winter-themed pillows on couches or benches are also a great option. I enjoy pillows because you can play around with so many patterns, colors, and textures.

3. textural items

In the same family as pillows, adding textural items can really enhance your space. For instance, this basket on the far right holding the eucalyptus is a fun way to add so much texture. Adding greenery such as eucalyptus or other winter foliage is a great option. Consider what textures would add to a cozy aesthetic: chunky, soft, heavy fabrics, yarn, or something similar. Have fun with this part of your decor!

4. variation of light sources

incorporating various lamps, lanterns, light up Christmas/winter items can add so much coziness to your home. Light adds warmth and interest and can lift your mood and most assuredly increases your coziness factor. Both lamps in these images were thrift store finds, and they have worked so well to give that warm glow. There are also sparkly light up items like this Santa Train I found at Hobby Lobby that adds to a magical atmosphere.

5. faux candles

These battery powered candles with a remote control are a game changer! They have a flicker setting that makes it look like a candle is flickering. The faux candle in the lantern also has a “wick” that moves as if the candle was lit. There are so many places to use these candles. I have them on my mantle and several scattered around my built-ins.

6. timeless art

Using winter/Christmas vintage art prints is one of my favorite ways to make a space cozy. Calming winter scenes with churches, barns, houses, snow, animals, etc. adds a lovely vintage feel to your home. Thrift stores and antique stores are great places to find vintage winter prints. You can also use websites like Etsy to purchase art prints that you print and frame. They have so many wonderful options. Adding these prints throughout your home will surely bring an extra level of coziness to those dark winter months.

7. plates and ceramics

Adding plates and ceramic dishes to your space is another way to achieve a layered, cozy look. focus on Christmas inspired patterns and colors. I enjoy using reds, whites, and, as you can see, pinecones and such. These plates and dishes have been collected over the years. Some were wedding gifts, others were thrifted, and the red set was given to me by my grandmother. Using what you already have on hand helps not add clutter, but repurpose what you have to fit that winter, cozy look you’re going for.

I’m so happy you stopped by to discover some fun ways to add coziness to your home this winter. I hope these ideas help and inspire you!
